SonoKit Learning Objectives

Full 3-Day Learning Curriculum

  • Day 1: Label the parts of a medical Ultrasound, discuss components, functionality, and purposes. Students use this day to build their SonoKit system: our Ultrasound-like kit made based on the same physics as a medical Ultrasound machine.

  • Day 2: Cover Engineering topics: block diagrams, design strategy, and learn about Engineering career pathways. Students learn to think like an Engineer through our guided troubleshooting lab design to develop critical thinking.

  • Day 3: Learn how the Ultrasound functions as a medical device in hospitals and clinics. Compare Ultrasound with other medical imaging systems. Students learn about healthcare career pathways in Sonography.

Jacob Farnell

Founder and Designer of Sound Explorer Co.

Howdy, I’m Jacob.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma, where access to high-quality STEM education isn’t always guaranteed. My path into engineering wasn’t inevitable—it was made possible by programs that invested in me early, including TRIO Upward Bound Math & Science and the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics.
Those opportunities changed everything.Today, I work as a Biomedical Engineer at a leading global healthcare company. But more importantly, they showed me what’s possible when students are given the right tools, exposure, and encouragement at the right time. That’s why I started this.My mission is simple: to make hands-on, real-world STEM experiences more accessible to the next generation—especially for students who might not otherwise see a future for themselves in these fields.Because I’ve seen firsthand what happens when they do.
